I would also gladly accept "Starfleet officers" or "a bunch of kickass, extremely talented folks"

it's so weird to because there is actuallu just no plausible reason why they would need to specify gender in that context, like, at all. it's *more* clunky, *more* wordy to do what they did, and it doesn't serve the dialogue in any discernible way...
-
that's also not a typo, I'm just being respectful of alien languages in the universe of star trek where the letter U sounds like a Y, which I didn't just make up on the spot to distract from my foolishness

There was a similar exchange on Discovery and I swear it jumped out at me in the same way.

ST:E met folk w/ 3 sexes. Riker loved someone w/o gender. Picard turned "Romulan lives" to "lives." What even is a Tribble? Non-binary ideas aren't alien to the 24th century. I hope it's just an anachronism like 'hang up the phone' 'roll down a window' & 'no man has gone before.'
-
When we get to this 24th century then they can make dialog for it. By that logic then all Star Wars movies should have been spoken in that universes "Basic."

Especially since they've bound to have encountered so many species with totally different forms of gender. Data is the only person to ever make a remake about that in Nemesis. But yeah, CBS, conservative channel and old fashioned views.

Kurtzman trek is infamous for coasting on its wokeness and pandering?!?! WTF are you even talking about?

I'm personally partial to "men, women, and those that lieth betwixt" but maybe that's just me.
-
Surely it should be "lords, ladies, and those that lieth betwixt"? Gotta get that alliteration in there.
