The best missions in those games were the ones where you could avoid combat. Even if it kept combat, I'd love to see the turn based style dropped and it all be skill, choice, and narrative based like the only fight in Disco Elysium.

I would usually just max combat stats in debug mode and roleplay

The fact DE is partially voiced really helps ease into the reading. I bounced off the shadowrun games as they’re giant walls of impenetrable text; DE’s presentation makes it much easier to digest.

Large chonky amounts of text tend to turn into this for me; bite sized bits are vastly easier to parse: https://geon.github.io/programming/2016/03/03/dsxyliea …

We really need a good Shadowrun RPG.

Honestly that’s how I feel about every RPG. They would be so much better with less combat

Same, but for Pillars of Eternity. The setting does really cool stuff with reincarnation, spirits, and magitek, but the dungeon-crawling just takes SO LONG. I bounced off of that game twice before I got sucked into the story enough to stick around.

I enjoyed the combat for the most part but it had some real XCOM moments for me. Like I should not miss 3 90% shots in a row, nor should an opponent get 3 crits on one my runners in cover with a 40% hit chance.

I like the combat in those games, but nonviolent play options would have been nice.
