I know it’s silly sometimes the things that bum me out but today I saw someone say the stop motion effects in Robocop “don’t hold up well” and like can’t you have a sense of wonder for what they accomplished then (and how) rather than judging everything against modern CGI?

There are a couple of specific shots with some really bad compositing artifacts that show up in digital transfers. The stair fall specifically. But otherwise that movie is great and they are wrong and should feel bad.

I mean really Dick Jones's fall is the weirdest fx shot in the movie for me -- I now forget why the model is so wonky -- something about it being built for a different lens? anyway movies come from when they came from. Also I love that movie VERY MUCH.

This would imply that humanity evolves somewhat in the next decade. We don't see that happening.

I'm consistently finding myself explaining this to one of my younger friends whenever I recommend he watch an older film he's never seen. CGI wasn't a big thing before the turn of the millennium, so stop trying to look at old movies through new glasses

Bigotry against the supposed inferiority of the past is one of the few socially accepted bigotries for many 'civilized' people. Me? I got THEM! and Forbidden Planet for Xmas. Can't wait to watch again.

Watching a special effects highlight of empire strikes back and became sad that its a version i cant see. Like that the original was flawed and needs to be "fixed" and something cant excitably be a product of its time.
