But Carolyn, there's a woman Mandalorian! Who mostly stays underground. And makes the clothes for the dude Mandalorians :/
I thought she was the Mandalorian clan chief (Based on episode 3) But maybe I misunderstood.
That is the issue. Because it is so normalized that creators don’t even think about it when making shows and movies. This was the case with representation of people of color in the old movies and how nobody was thinking of adding black people since their exclusion is as normal.
For me as an immigrant from the Middle East, the issue which is again being normalized is people with beards and Arabic names being terrorists and harboring extreme view points. But I’m hopeful these harmful trends will change with advocates like you and many others.
How many woman should be arbitrarily placed in each seen to count. Is there a specific quota or ratio per male character that should be fulfilled.
Yeah, it’s just so ingrained in the western motif I didn’t even notice at first. If the Gina Carano character ends up being important does it become more a criticism of the culture than the show? I’m looking forward to seeing her be a badass trooper. Or is she a token?
I’m looking for an excuse to feel better about it I guess. It’s definitely off when you consider the number of important women Mandalorian warriors from the animated shows. Not sure if there was parity in the background soldiers though. Should have been more women Mandos at least
