The Irishman is now on Netflix but I still want to see it in a theater, not because I believe in the inherent superiority of theatrical screening for all films but because I don't trust myself do give a film that long the attention it deserves if I'm watching it at home.

People always think it’s a joke or eyerolly pretentiousness when theaters are compared to church, but the framing is similar: this is a dedicated place. That’s what the word “sacred” means, something set aside because it’s special.

Agreed! There’s a real communing that comes with seeing something in a theater.
