Probably helps that I fancy myself a writer and that I could relate to a lot of the father issues in the film but as a Mr. Rogers episode for adults, A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood sure worked for me.

To me the fascinating puzzle of the film, and of Rogers as he exists as a figure in our collective cultural memory, is that he was given to saying things like this, and yet to us, he himself seems to exist at something of a remove, a bit inscrutable, a bit unknowable.pic.twitter.com/Tls4ldV1nX

Also Marielle Heller’s directing is great. It’s admittedly a pretty sentimental story but she keeps those tendencies in check, keeps things feeling grounded and honest.
