I think both perspectives are totally valid. But while I think a film that relies on other media can be part of something that is collectively great, I'm not sure I think a film can be a great film in and of itself if it relies on outside material to inform its greatness.

I don’t think it’s unfair in this case. The MCU movies were kind of one thing but considering the wide expansion of the universe post Endgame and saying we may need to follow several shows to understand one movie just becomes exhausting.
