I've seen people using that to say that Marvel movies are better which.....might be even more depressing than not mentioning it at all.

On that topic have you seen portrait of a lady on fire ? I’m obsessed with it and some male critics don’t like it because they don’t get it... because it’s not tailored to them

I don’t think it’s opened here yet but it’s definitely on my list!

That, and the Internet perpetuating the notion of "Your Opinion is Wrong." Scorsese and Coppola can go suck and egg. Maybe Marvel films aren't governed by auteurs but they still have artistic merit by the sheer creativity required to produce them.

Well, considering that the Marvel movies are cultural juggernauts that rake in boatloads of money while Scorsese has spent his life championing and preserving great works of world cinema that most fuming Marvel fans don't give a fuck about, I don't feel too bad for Marvel here.

I’d love to see some more discussion about how canonical male directors like Hitchcock and Kubrick abused their female stars to make their art. There’s a weirdly misogynistic idea that women can’t be expected to act, but instead have to be manipulated to giving a good performance
