You actually mean "..has done more for the protection of our planet's climate" right? Because "doing something for climate change" means things like driving a car, flying with a plane or starting a corporation in the oil, gas and coal industry.

You’re being really weird and restrictive about language there. “Climate change” here means the cause of climate change as it affects us and the planet. It’s not that complicated.

Sorry, I'm no native speaker. But I guess there's a difference between 1. protecting the climate and 2. causing climate change or not? I mean, I think I get the point of the tweet, so it's not so important but anyway, it's not correct to put it that way or am I wrong?

You could call the phrasing in the tweet “casual” but you couldn’t, I think, call it wrong. Native English speakers use shorthand constructions like this all the time and know the meaning will be clear because of context.

Well, thanks for the information. Then it seems the problem is just that I'm no native speaker and don't understand the context of some phrases.

I apologize for coming across harshly. I just didn’t want the original tweeter who I had RTd to feel like she’d made an error when I don’t think she has.
