Cynically I would agree, but I would wanna see stats to back up “vast swaths.” I have personally met far fewer people who view films like Goodfellas as portraying something aspirational than people who understand them as being cautious or condemnatory of that lifestyle.

There is a not insignificant contingent of Star Trek fans who get mad when the shows get “too diverse”. When Star Trek’s core concept is too subtle for some people I think it’s the men who are the problem not the films.
