The filmmaking in JOKER is fine IMO, but unremarkable. It clearly wants to evoke early Scorsese but without the alarming grit that made those films genuinely unnerving and uncomfortable. A clinical, soulless imitation, like Abrams imitating early Spielberg in Super 8.

It was interesting to me how unoriginal the material was in the movie. Very underwhelming and messy. The whole movie was just a bunch of set pieces with no connective tissue. When will we let go of this character and look at other more interesting ones?
