Like, don’t you think a slow burn might be rewarding in its own way? Don’t you believe in setup and payoff? Is “fun” the only thing games should ever strive to be?

When I hear someone say "the first 5-15 hours of a game isn't fun but then it gets good", I skip that game. I simply don't have that amount of time to play games any more, and would rather play something that gets to its point quicker.

These days I appreciate short games because my time for games is limited. However, sometimes my favorite part of a game is world-building, exploration, sussing out the premise, so there's a chance I'll find the early sections of DS more rewarding than the "fun" stuff later.

The idea that games must be fun is such a depressing concept.
