You know, fighting games have a lot in common with good action games, too. At their best, they can encourage experimentation and failure while you become more and more creative to accomplish something.

MGS5 was really good at subverting the old stealth adage of attempting perfection and instead made you say "okay, I just really fucked this up, but I can still win!" The way it gave you consequences made you be better in a way that just restarting a level couldn't do.
