I get that some people don't like Fortnite. Fine. Of course, no game is everyone's cup of tea. But I do get irked when people like me who are old enough to remember the earliest first- and third-person shooters dismiss it as a "low-skill" game.

When I watch Fortnite build battles at high-level play, it's a kind of skill that players from my generation have never had to develop, a dizzying dance of spatial awareness, making split-millisecond decisions about when/where to build and when to take a shot.

It takes the skills that have always been at the core of shooters and weaves in a whole new layer of complexity. It's the 1st game that makes me feel old as a player, like these are skills that I woulda picked up naturally when I was younger but that now I'll just never adapt to.

Replying to @carolynmichelle
Of course, most young players won't -and can't- get to that level either.

Most of them won't be Ninja, but i suspect many of them will grasp the basics of it better than I ever will. I play Fortnite every day and I constantly see players doing things that impress me.
