I'm not sure what to make of the cancel culture conversation because I'm not sure we're all operating from the same understanding of what cancel culture even means. I mean, obviously some statements, some comedy specials, some films, etc. need to be strenuously criticized, right?

I’ve grown up in a country where it literally has positions in the media to censor “harmful” things in works of art and entertainment. What I see happening on twitter, Facebook, etc is people being engaged in censorship of anything they find offensive. That is dangerous territory

Sure, some messages are very harmful and should be protested and pushed aside. I don’t agree with giving platforms to Neo Nazis on college campuses. But a movie is still a piece of art. It should be criticized in every which way. But it should not be shoved aside.

What I see is people on twitter getting angry at different movies, games for different reasons and deciding to put them aside. Look at what happened with The Hunt. The movie might suck but it should not have been shoved aside. Censorship is wrong.
