It's pretty trippy seeing the #GamersAreGood hashtag trend while the Ooblets devs have been the targets of so much harassment. Let's not kid ourselves folks. We have a very serious problem with toxicity & entitlement, and we have a shit-ton of work to do. https://medium.com/@perplamps/regarding-whats-been-happening-3af0f27d863c …

I haven't been following the whole thing with the Epic Store recently, did something really awful happen in the last few days?
-
Yeah, you can get the details here. It all started when the devs of Ooblets (which looks delightful) announced it was gonna be an EGS exclusive. https://medium.com/@perplamps/regarding-whats-been-happening-3af0f27d863c …

I thought people wanted competition for Steam. They get it, and they suddenly act all entitled and send death threats? I’m with you, I don’t get it.pic.twitter.com/nRed610YlY

It seems to be increasingly clear that the rage and hatred leaking out here has almost nothing to do with games, rather it’s an excuse to (attempt to) destroy a stranger
-
This is frustrating because it’s impossible to fix. Who are these people? Are they as irrationally angry as they seem? Why are they like this? These are questions we cannot answer.

The core is a worry of being forced to use a platform with fewer features for games they want to play. From there it gets into a conspiratorial morass of Steam being “forced out” and Chinese spying and such very quickly
-
fewer features on the store. The games themselves are the same.

I'm one of the people that are glad someone is taking on Steam and knows exclusivity is the best way to do it, but from what I'm reading about the Ooblets story (trying to read arguments on both sides), it's not really about Epic. That being said, the toxicity is appalling.
-
The problem is mostly that proprietary stores/launchers are really annoying to deal with (and yes that includes steam). Just too much unnecessary clutter and awful multi-player connectivity along the board.
