There’s a lot to process in Once Upon a Time...in Hollywood. A lot I liked. I could watch Brad Pitt drive around the sun-dappled Hollywood Hills of 1969 for hours. But yeah, that Bruce Lee scene sucks.

Interestingly, the theater where I saw it is absolutely covered in Bruce Lee posters.pic.twitter.com/8Agnlxmtyb

That's sort-of the general problem with Tarantino's work. He really, really gets film—like, he *gets* it—but the way he uses it to tell stories, the way he frames people, and violence, and the world, is exclusively and detrimentally masculine.

He's celebrated as this grand innovative auteur, but perhaps because he's bought into his own hype, perhaps becaise societal conditioning, his work is painfully reductive. I guess that's why Film Bro-Dudes (patent pending) like him so much.
