The convo around smoking in media is a fascinating one for me. I’ve never smoked. I abhor cigarettes. My mom died of cancer that resulted from her being a lifelong smoker. I remember as a kid begging her to stop. She never did. And yet, I still love watching actors smoke.

And of course cigarette smoke can look amazing on-screen. It can be so aesthetically pleasing. And yet I think the world would be better overall if everyone who smokes cigarettes with any regularity stopped tomorrow. And I can’t deny that the use of cigs in film/TV is glorifying.

Like, yeah, it looks COOL. That’s why I enjoy/appreciate it so much. And that’s also why it’s a problem. Because cigarettes kill people. Hundreds of thousands of people every year. Fucking media, man. How does it work?
