Metal Gear Solid 1 handled its concerns about nuclear arms escalation with all the subtlety of a sledgehammer. Whatever you may think of Kojima as a creator, his games grind the axe extremely loudly.https://twitter.com/CommanderFace/status/1135134831002759173 …

Politics in games is usually bad when they try and make it relevant. "There's a difference between something like metal gear which explores the plight of the soldier, and some shitty trash that's just "haha orange man bad/good"." @ToothpasteSquid told me that, and he's right.

MGS 1 might as well be called Nuclear Politics: The Game

MGS3 literally had a boss fight that made you confront every person (and animal) you’d killed up to that point. My dude is not super subtle about his themes!

Shhhhh, don't tell him. Let's see how deep of a hole he'll dig for himself by assuming there's nothing political about the MGS series.

Plight of the soldier... they REALLY thought it was about the “plight of the soldier”? Did they just NOT pay any attention to the conspiracy’s and government people from quite a few countries INCLUDING the USA involves in those nuclear arms contracts and stuff?

I went into MGS in the knowledge those themes exist within it. It has good lore, and the politics are handled with more depth than "x IS BAD". I go into DOOM with the mindset of "I just want to kill things".

Did you completely miss that the last Doom game’s whole plot setup was blatantly about the evils of capitalism

Wait... hold on... I thought mgs1 was just about answering the question "can love bloom on the battlefield?" What's all this about nukes?
