Does sublimity in a film like Skyfall only help to glamorize & normalize the patriarchy and misogyny at its core? Quite possibly. That's a conversation I'm willing to have. But I'm not willing to say that I don't experience those transcendent moments of beauty in the first place.

We are large. We contain multitudes, some of them contradictory. So does art itself. And so does the space between us and art. We have to confront it in an honest way that acknowledges the messiness of it all.

Of course, for some of us, sometimes, these things are simple. That's fine too, or can be, as long as that, too, comes from an honest place & doesn't involve the denial of one's own humanity, or the humanity of others who sit in the dark with us, looking up at the glowing screen.
