To clarify, I'm talking about the fusing of the terms "trans" and "man" or "woman" into a single word, as we sometimes see in "transwoman/transman," AS OPPOSED TO "trans man/trans woman," which is fine.

So... the people who say 'I am a trans woman/transwoman'... I understand that they are not some kind of alien gender... but it does seem to be a way some people talk about themselves.
-
I'm not going to tell someone not to refer to themselves that way of course. But I do feel allies should lean toward the usage of trans man/trans woman/etc. unless there's a particular reason to do otherwise, ie. they're referring to someone who specifically IDs as a "transwoman"

Makes sense, though I assume it is ok to use those terms when there is reason to mention a person's identity as trans, correct?
-
I mean, if a person specifically identifies as a "transwoman" rather than a "trans woman," then sure, I suppose, but I think allies should default toward the usage of "trans man/trans woman/etc."

Is it ok to just say woman or man? Or by doing that does that dismisses a persons identity or disrespectful to a trans person?
-
Oh, absolutely. A person's cis- or transness isn't always relevant. Just as we don't always specify that we're referring to a cis person when telling a story or whatever, we don't always need to specify that we're referring to a trans person. A trans woman is just a woman.
