Even when art is supremely disappointing or infuriating--be it the end of ME 3 or the end of GoT--you don't get to bend it to your will! Accepting that art will sometimes let you down, make you angry, or leave you feeling betrayed is part of having a healthy relationship w/art.

It's a weirder gray area with games thanks to service-based games and Early Access models and so on. Mass Effect 3 was not that but I think having evolving games out there a long time e.g. WoW & Minecraft sets up the expectation that any game can evolve or improve in some way.

It is, but I wish game companies would push back against "change-the-art-to-meet-my-expectations" movements, if only because it fosters an unhealthy feeling of entitlement with art more broadly. And I want players to understand the fundamental difference between, say, tweaking...

I would love to sit down with Brian K Vaughan and discuss with him why exactly do all his story endings disappoint me to no end despite him being one of my favorite writers, but i don't wanna sound rude

If you got a problem with the way or direction a story went, fine,by all means complain, but don’t act like you’re owed a remake or something just because you’re a fan of said story. As a fanfic writer I can relate to this.

That's what I just said in my RT. I mean, GoT only really exists in a way because Martin wanted to, in his style, critique fantasy medieval action fiction and go to places it hadn't before. Laziness pervades society and people dont want to do the work to do their "better" take.

I mean I've gotten like five people to enjoy the ME series more than me by strongly cautioning against finishing ME3. But did even think to petition Bioware for a 'fixed' ending? Fuck no.

How do you explain the backlash towards Sonic the Hedgehog's movie design then? Would you say it's morally wrong for the studio to listen to the feedback? You're making it sound like people should just "shut up and take it".
