Humans are communal creatures. When people are angry at the same/similar things, anger bounces between them and magnifies until it either finds a vent, or explodes. These communities are now the last place to go if you want real help and change.

Compassion and empathy on the other hand, can be exhausting. The kind of emotional labor and genuine caring necessary to effectively treat anger like this... I can only imagine they became overwhelmed and left. Constantly exhausting yourself is dangerous too.
