And it’s fine that not everybody agrees with me. But what’s strange is that seemingly nobody in mainstream games criticism agrees with me. Can’t God of War, for all its technical prowess, still be a bad game?

Anyway, if you’re looking for some warmth from Tevis (who is a very warm person, truth be told), stay tuned for his forthcoming entry on the best games of last year. He can praise as insightfully and beautifully and sensitively as he can critique ruthlessly.

Also, Tevis doesn’t have a social media presence himself anymore (lucky guy!) so yeah, as a fan of his work, I’m gonna be promoting it as each new entry is released. Consider yourselves warned.

Part Two of Tevis Thompson's new video game (or, as he would write, videogame) essay It's Not Coming Back is up. If you read part one, this link will take you to part two. I especially love this part of Tevis' appreciation of Subnautica, a game I really need to spend some time with. http://tevisthompson.com/its-not-coming-back/#best2018 …pic.twitter.com/grWnGmuLqh

Here is the 4th part of Tevis Thompson's new essay. If you've written it off because of its tone (or for any reason really), I'd encourage you to come back to it. This section is more introspective & in some ways self-critical than you might have expected. http://tevisthompson.com/its-not-coming-back/#interlude2 …

I'm sure he will get into why he considers it special and particularly noteworthy in the essay's final section.

Obviously I can't say where Tevis is going because I don't know. I know I've seen little or no writing about the aspects of Fortnite that I think make it special (which may be quite different from what Tevis loves about the game, again IDK), but I also acknowledge that most...

games critics (and most Fortnite players, for that matter) just genuinely don't care about those aspects at all.
