It was that I felt like people, regardless of review scores or YouTube channels or whatever are willing to give Zeldas a free pass that I'm not, and I didn't. Wasn't review scores that had non gaming sites declare it the best since Ocarina of Time, it was people loving Zelda.
Yes but IMO that’s what needs to happen, over and over again until establishment game reviews no longer function as something that reinforces the narrow definition mainstream “gamers” (in general) have of what makes games good, or not good.

Sure, agreed, and some try. I like to think I score outside the norm. It's gotten us blacklisted a fair number of times, and gotten us the community deathball a few times as well. But honestly I think it's too late, and that with Twitch/YouTube we've missed our chance.

If anything I think the fandom has gotten even more insular in its paid-marketing echo chamber and the number of voices that count as "reviews" (even when they're nothing of the sort) guarantee this shift won't happen. That's how I feel on my more cynical days at least.

is tevis thompson willing to pony up the money so the person who dares to give god of war a 2/10 can check out of the internet immediately afterwards to (hopefully, not even definitely) dodge the onslaught of abuse they will no doubt receive

this becomes a "what matters more, tevis thompson's boner for variety in review scores, or the literal physical safety of people doing the reviews"

Seems noteworthy that they've COMPLETELY redone how colonies work but diplomacy still sucks
