Lately I often find myself browsing old RPGs on GOG, stuff like Ultima V, Eye of the Beholder, and so on, getting the feeling of wandering old computer game stores where each of these boxes on the shelf--boxes I couldn't afford--felt like a magical portal into another world.

I played those as a kid (er...somehow...) so playing them again reawakens a lot of feelings (and a lot of frustration). There's a lot good about those games but there are a lot of modern advances that really take the tedium out of old school RPGs.

That being said, Ultima VII (parts 1 and 2) STILL HOLD UP. Still my favorite PC games (followed very closely by Fallout 2 and EOB2).

Same. I'm playing Lucasarts' "Full Throttle" right now.

I remember spending an entire summer pouring over the 3/4" thick Baldur's Gate 1 manual, I my miss those days!
