I keep feeling like there’s more of a focus on connection and compassion as a theme in TV these past few years (Russian Doll, Maniac, The Good Place, etc.) and wondering if in some ways it’s a response by artists to an increasingly isolating world.

I think it’s also a natural reaction to how much “quality” entertainment was couched in cynicism for so long. It’s easy to be cynical and in this dark time we need something to keep us going.
