RE2 remake: Like most big-budget major studio games, it's predictably competent. Effective at getting your pulse racing, and perhaps making you worry about your remaining ammo and health items, which can make progression feel like a postponement of the morbid inevitable.

It's not interesting, though. For all its frights, it's also blandly predictable and, yes, safe, offering exactly, and I mean exactly, what you go in expecting. You may not have played RE2 quite like this before, but you've certainly played other games just like it.

Still, as a thoroughly competent horror game, it supplies extreme tension, followed by triumph and catharsis, and that's more than plenty of other games make me feel. It's a very respectable 6/10.

I'm so confused as to how anyone beats this game in less than 11 hours on their first run. Like...don't ya wanna look around a little bit before running off to the next puzzle?
