"You promise...I'll be happy?" "Absolutely not. But I can promise you that you will not be alone." That's all any of us can hope for. And that's what all of us need. Gonna be thinking about those final scenes (and, god, those final shots) for a long time.

Ooof. I have zero context for this tweet but it’s one that gives me a very visceral reaction. Nope. Just nope. If domestic abuse has taught me anything, it’s that I’d rather be alone than with someone who makes me miserable.

no, of course. that's not what i intended to suggest. "alone" isn't always the worst possible outcome. in the work i'm quoting and referencing here, the "you won't be alone" is a statement of reassurance, "i care about you, i'm not going to abandon you."

but as someone who has spent far too much of my life alone, who thinks about loneliness a great deal and is looking for a real, mutual connection with another human being, the search for (mutually caring, beneficial) connection resonates deeply with me in works of fiction.

I guess maybe I’m being a downer. I’ve kinda given up on that kind of connection on a romantic level. Dating men has been.... ugh. Online dating wasn’t around when I met my ex and it has been freaking excruciating.

Gaaaah! I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to make this about me.
What I’m trying to say is that what you’re saying is totally valid, and I do hope you find that connection eventually.
Because you totally deserve it.1 reply 0 retweets 2 likes
Aw thanks! And please, there's no need to apologize, your feelings are perfectly valid as well.
