Souls players: I want to try out this series, but Dark Souls Remastered is $40 and DS2 and 3 are $10 and $15. Is there any reason I can't start with 2 or 3 and see how I like it? Would it hurt the experience?

To my knowledge you don't have to play them in any specific order. I tried DS1 but got tired of it feeling slow & sluggish. Enjoyed Bloodborne & from my understanding DS3 had a lot of the qualities I enjoyed from Bloodborne.

This is very helpful, thank you
I've heard there are unspecific grumblings about DS2 from the Souls fanbase but I have no point of reference for what they're about2 replies 0 retweets 1 like -

I'm not an expert by any means but in DS1 I felt like my character was just SO slow to do anything. Bloodborne was faster paced & when I got my butt kicked I felt like I deserved opposed to DS1 where I felt like it was the controls. DS3 apparently allows better movement.

To be fair, I just finished Fallout: New Vegas, which is my first 3D Fallout game, so I'm prepared for clunky, slow movement

Dark Souls 2 just isn't nearly as memorable in its environmental design. If you start with it, you're more likely to be left wondering what all the fuss is about IMO.
