Carolyn Petit added,
i don't play fortnight and have no idea whether this applies here, but can't there be room for both sticking to their core design philosophy, and also responding when they release something truly overpowered? i agree that gamer entitlement sucks, but also balance is hard.
i guess maybe what i'm really asking is, do you see evidence here that they are less likely to try the kinds of unpredictable stuff you like in the future because of this?
Of course if they implement something & realize that it genuinely doesn't function in a way that's consistent with their vision of the game, then yeah, roll back, or implement new things to adjust, whatever. My issue here is specifically with gamer entitlement and caving in to it
Like, players should feel free to comment and say "Hey, in my opinion this new addition is messing with balance in ways that aren't great." And devs should take that into consideration, take it or leave it as they see fit. Ultimately it's their call.
But what's with players saying "OMG FUCK YOU THIS CHANGE IS AWFUL TAKE IT OUT OR ELSE!" Why do so many of them think that's okay? And why legitimize it by responding to it?
What I can't tell from here is if they actually have responded to it. With any change, there'll be some people like that, and then also some people doing the more polite thing. When they make a change, how do we know whether it was bc of the entitled rage or the polite requests?
I mean it would be great if we lived in a world where they said "we're going to make this change because we think it's best, but it wasn't because of all you entitled jerks, please stop", that would be great, but they'd lose a lot of money ;__;
anyway I'm not really sure what the source of me even wanting to talk about this is, it's not like i have any stake in defending the company or its fans. maybe i just want to give you a more hopeful perspective, that perhaps they feel the same about the outrage but can't say so,
and will continue to basically make the game in the way you've been appreciating all along
Well, I hope so. This doesn't bode well for that IMO, but I hope so.
