And as we see in some of these responses, they feel like Epic caving in to their demands is the only right/sensible course of action. That Fortnite should be beholden to their desires. Unsurprisingly, I don't share this attitude. (2/x)

For me, a big part of the appeal of Fortnite is, as I've often talked about, the way the world feels alive with possibility, a little chaotic, not just an environment that exists to give players what they want. (3/x)

Does that mean I like everything that gets added to the game? No, I don't. But I LIKE that I don't like everything. I don't want it to feel safe, or predictable. And frankly it's odd to me that so many people seem to want the game to give them exactly what they want. (4/x)

Sometimes, sometimes there's value in games giving us what we don't want. In confronting and adapting to that. I hope Fortnite keeps it up. (5/5)

What effect did this item have on the game exactly, if you don't mind me asking?

It was a very powerful melee item that one player each match could get if they were the first to draw it from the stone or whatever.

Sorry, I should've clarified. I read the article, so I know what it does. But I don't know what it 'does', in terms of the actual effect on matches. I completely agree with the sentiment here :) But at the same time, as someone who has rarely done well in Fortnite without --

Well, it’s by and large the extremely competitive players who are complaining about it, players who feel they’ve largely already mastered the game exactly the way it is and want it to stay that way. But yeah, I object to the “do what we want or else” attitude regardless of that.

In other words, I’m pretty bad at Fortnite but I’m generally in favor of the designers taking risks like this regardless of whether they help me be a bit more competitive or make it a little tougher for me. It was supposed to be part of season 7’s flavor, not a permanent change.

Totally agree. That's exactly why I enjoy Paladins' updates. They take risks and usually fall on the side of making new characters overpowered rather than underpowered. It temporarily messes up the meta, but at least it makes most of the new additions interesting to try :)

Though, I may be a bit biased because I'm also not really great at Fortnite. So having potential access to a 'noob tube' style overpowered weapon to even the playing field sounds good to me, lol.
