So, Fortnite. The Infinity Blade. It seems that whenever Epic introduce something new that affects the core game for a limited but significant amount of time, a lot of players get VERY upset, and want it cordoned off in an LTM as opposed to impacting the main Battle Royale. And as we see in some of these responses, they feel like Epic caving in to their demands is the only right/sensible course of action. That Fortnite should be beholden to their desires. Unsurprisingly, I don't share this attitude. (2/x)

For me, a big part of the appeal of Fortnite is, as I've often talked about, the way the world feels alive with possibility, a little chaotic, not just an environment that exists to give players what they want. (3/x)

Does that mean I like everything that gets added to the game? No, I don't. But I LIKE that I don't like everything. I don't want it to feel safe, or predictable. And frankly it's odd to me that so many people seem to want the game to give them exactly what they want. (4/x)

Sometimes, sometimes there's value in games giving us what we don't want. In confronting and adapting to that. I hope Fortnite keeps it up. (5/5)

What effect did this item have on the game exactly, if you don't mind me asking?

It was a very powerful melee item that one player each match could get if they were the first to draw it from the stone or whatever.

i don't play fortnight and have no idea whether this applies here, but can't there be room for both sticking to their core design philosophy, and also responding when they release something truly overpowered? i agree that gamer entitlement sucks, but also balance is hard.

i guess maybe what i'm really asking is, do you see evidence here that they are less likely to try the kinds of unpredictable stuff you like in the future because of this?
