It's an act of reveling in hating women (specifically, in this case, women who dare to assert that women should be viewed by society as equal human beings) or trans people.

Posting it on YouTube for other people to revel in or find humor in specifically singling out and performing violence on these NPCs is disgusting, as is finding such behavior particularly humorous or satisfying.

As a woman and a trans person who has endured no shortage of hostility for being a woman and a trans person in gaming spaces, I hope people understand why the idea of gamers taking particular glee in brutalizing these characters BECAUSE they are women or trans might concern me.

What is the impulse there? Where does it come from? There is no charitable explanation at all for why a player might enjoy singling out these specific characters and deliberately causing violence to them specifically.

It is totally fucked up. And for what? For attention? What kind of fucked up system encourages its subjects to do these things, publish them online and then ridicule and / or harass anyone who dares to object? Ugh it's so gross.

This company revels in this kind of controversial shit. It’s why no matter how technically amazing the games might be, I’ve always had a really tough time justifying my play of any of them. I don’t condone it in real life, and I damn well don’t care for it in a game.

But this kind of misogyny is definitely not new for Rockstar, or for video games in general. I remember that one change to Duke Nukem in N64 that threw so many into a fit back then too when it was decided you saved the women instead of being allowed to blow their nude bodies up.

Personally speaking, that game was still misogynistic as fuck, but even back as a teenager that shit never felt right on the PC version. And hearing others revel in the PC version because it wasn’t “censored”, because you COULD “blow those bitches up”. Made me realize things...
