Sure, that's totally understandable. I'm sure that's true of a lot of people. I don't think people should be persecuted for not initially understanding the way this joke is rooted in transphobia. As long as people are open to learning, it's all good.

I think for most of us (me included), looking back and being a bit embarrassed about things we didn't previously understand is part of growing, learning and becoming better, so, you know, in some ways that may be a good sign, but don't dwell on it! It shows that you're learning.
