Personally I've always felt the Alliance brand of virtue and heroism vaguely suggested something oppressive, rooted in pretense and empty rhetoric, kind of Reagan-y and "law and order"-y, and didn't myself see them as unambiguously the "good" guys vs. the "evil" Horde.

But to say that I'm no expert on WoW lore is like saying that someone who knows almost nothing about a topic is no expert on that thing.

the expansion is out in 2 weeks so this is from the pre-expac content, and they said the expansion story for our new leader is "morally grey" but she sure did genocide the entire night elf starting area this week to kick off the War so i am uh... hesitant to believe them?
-
I almost wish they didn't actually use the words "morally grey" unless the BFA patches have something big planned. There's not much morally grey about burning a whole bunch of civilians.

They're positioning Horde reasoning as 'doing what's necessary to ensure their continued survival,' though that has recently included mass-murder, sooooo....
-
The devs have indicated that horde players *should* feel concerned about this, and that there's more story to tell with the new expansion. In a previous expansion, horde players were asked to participate in a coup against a different tyrant leader of theirs
