You’re right, it doesn’t. We can only hope that the filmmakers and any other actors who might be considered for the role now have a better understanding of why it should go to a trans actor.

Sure, but in practice that mentality always ends up prioritizing whiteness and cis-ness, perpetuating the way things are and leaving trans actors and others marginalized, not giving them the opportunity to become known, seen, and valued in their own right.

Oh, 100%. And like maybe soooomeday, in a truly equal world, cis actors can play trans people and trans actors can play cis people and actors will get the opportunities they deserve regardless of whether they’re cis or trans. But, yeah, we have a long way to go before that.
