Can't relate to white cis het males in particular, tried to for years and it almost killed me. No desire to suffer that again but usually tend to find there's little to no choice in the matter a lot of the time due to the lack of variety and rampant pandering to the usuals

Why shouldn’t this movie be made as a focus group driven project to not offend as many people as possible, that’s how all great art is made.

To tell the truth I didnt find the Original Star Wars cast relatable... And I’m cishet white... I feel I have a lot more in common with Rey or Rose than all the other starwars characters. Its as if being white or cismale is not enough to make something relatable.

B-b-but white male is the default setting on humanity! It doesn't get more normal or relatable than that! ;)

I personally can relate to women in media as long as there's some common ground between us. One great example was Mashiro Shiina from Sakurasou no Pet na Kanojo: Although her character isn't free from issues, as an autistic person I just needed a character like her at that time.

Probably the fact that she was a girl helped me even more, since most representations of autism in media is almost exclusively male, not to mention that only very recently we got the few high-functioning characters we have in media.
