1) Men can and should represent women too. 2) Who's complaining to men? All they're doing is taking down some numbers and discussing what they suggest. It's the industry their complaining about. If you perceive the industry as "men" does that not further illustrate the problem?

Men don't need do, but there's no reason why they shouldn't. Why are you assuming that a male dev or male gamer cannot empathise with woman? It's all human experience. We're not that different.

In a perfect world, it wouldn't matter. But sexism is a thing, which is reflected in, and exacerbated by, under-representation. Until E3 can announce 100% of new titles have exclusively female protagonists without anyone flinching about it, it still matters.
