The problem is that the films used to work as self-contained stories that people could go to other sources to expand upon. SOLO raises a massive "WTF?!" for anyone who wants to understand and experience these stories through the films alone.

Well, that ain't happenin'. I got stuff going on. Well, not really, but I am not ready to jump into the thousands of extra Star Wars they've been flooding the market with over the last 40 years, I am busy enough keeping up with the movies.

I feel the same about the MCU too, although in their case it's more that if you miss one instalment at the theatre, the next one is out before the Blu-Ray hits.

And they're all out of order too.. so much I didn't get from the movies about the overall scene until I forced myself to watch SHIELD.. I've always liked Whedon but.. needs a Netflix edge IMO.. who am I though

Rebels/The Clone Wars. (SPOILER) We see Maul appear as the true crime boss behind everything. Makes sense he'd be doing that kind of thing in-between movie eras. That's one of many things one won't completely understand without delving into other works.
