  Serving in a legislature is supposed to be a part-time job. Congress exceeds their oversight authority with too many investigations as a means to justify full-time employment.

  I don’t think most local city/county electorates were meant to be full time, 6-figure, half-million $/yr taxpayer funded jobs. US Congress definitely wasn’t, look at their schedules. Unfortunately the people seem to have an appetite for this sort of thing, hence their votes.

  Agreed! Here’s a novel idea: enact some smart laws that politicians and legislators have to actually live with; you know when they leave the public sector and return to the private? Oh, that’s right. They don’t.
