2/ I found a map of all the existing relevant rigorous #research, which used systematic review methods for search, and has a nice discussion. We learn a lot from it that can probably save us considerable mistakes / time / money.

3/ That map & discussion was really hard to find. If I'd not known where to look, and pursued a few openings-that-looked-like-probable-dead-ends, I wouldn't have found it. i.e., research architecture is pretty terrible.

4/ Until a few years ago, I wouldn't have known that such things exist and to look for them. Probably many
#philanthropy advisors still don't.Show this threadThanks. Twitter will use this to make your timeline better. UndoUndo

5/ There's little relevant existing research, and entirely from other countries. So we're going to the underlying studies to figure out whether the mechanisms that got the reported results are likely to apply where we're working.

6/ Let's hope the research reports describe context & interventions well :-o

7/ The author of that evidence map & discussion is probably interested in whether/how it gets used. But I've no incentive to tell them I'm using it - & they omitted their contact details(!) So they'll never know. The 'system' for capturing
#research use is really incomplete.Show this threadThanks. Twitter will use this to make your timeline better. UndoUndo
