I'm all for cycleways and other ways to encourage cycling, but if cities truly want to boost bicycling they MUST discourage motoring, and removing car parking spaces is critical way of doing that.

Was thinking about London when I read the piece. Think we're a long way off. Unfamiliar with Parisian local govt. but London has two tier system. Can't see the likes of Kensington & Chelsea or Westminster going for this.

So there are only about 100,000 parking spaces in a city of millions? It's amazing how much space is used for a minority of travelers....
-
The article says “There are 621,600 parking spaces in total in Paris, most of them are domestic ones or commercial car parks.” The 100,000 figure refers to on street parking.

Paris has a network of under street residential car parks, which for legal and financial reasons can’t be replicated in UK Trying to take away 72% of on-street parking in inner London would be almost impossible
-
Not impossible - all it would take is some yellow paint.
