Apps that embrace the notch on the new iPhone X look bad. Look better with a black background for the status bar. Quick comparison #iphonexpic.twitter.com/3o4bJQC4NB

I disagree, and also think you should probably wait until you actually use the device to pass this judgment.

👍 agree it’s premature criticism & sure it will look better ‘in person’. I’ve some doubts on landscape. Everything else looks great though

I agree however Apple is officially urging to embrace the notch.https://twitter.com/talkaboutdesign/status/907687475165921287 …

Da fuk? Apple is prohibiting artificially hiding the notch area on the new iPhone. Embrace the notch. #AppleEvent pic.twitter.com/Hs9f2H8jI6

This is interesting, but they do it in the iTunes app, taken from today’s keynote.pic.twitter.com/ZridoiCWZ6

That's how it works even now. I think it has to do with how your app generally looks and not just during temporary view transitions.

Also some of Apple's HIGs aren't really enforced during Apple review. There's a good chance Apple might let this slide.

Good discussion here. Just curious: what's an HIG?

Human interface guidelines. It outlines best design practices and if you follow them to the point, your chances of being featured shoot up.

Which makes you wonder bother to have that notch in the first. It’s literally a customized cut of the display panel and it takes huge costs

Apple want people to associate that look to them. They are doing it as a marketing strategy to differentiate themselevs from Samsung s8

Hard to disagree with that and I suspect most apps will function that way, so not ever really full screen. I'll still be getting one tho'

Having the notch hidden, without a doubt, looks a lot better than what @Apple wants. But, it looks awfully a lot like S8, G6 and Pixel 2 XL.

Bad news, time and icons are located too low to hide the notch without making it look worst. I guess it’s made in purpose ;)
