@Mayor_Margo continues to follow Governor @GregAbbott_TX’s ill-advised policies instead of standing up and speaking out for El Pasoans. He prioritized an economic task force over the health of our community and before addressing our real concerns.
The economic task force included only 5% healthcare professionals, 0% frontline workers, 19% women and 48% people of color. As mayor, I will prioritize hiring a public health director and fully supporting and funding a public health department, with a public health director to lead it. We need to hire one ASAP. El Pasoans deserve our full attention to decrease the number of deaths and cases.
We need leadership that can bring everyone together. This has not happened. As mayor, I will convene a Public Health Task Force that marshalls the talents of everyone in our community and provides the resources needed to ensure the health and safety of all El Pasoans.
As mayor, I will ensure full transparency and public service announcements to communicate with the public effectively about our testing sites and data on the cases of COVID-19 infections and deaths. We need full and transparent information.
Masks in public need to be mandatory with penalties for non-compliance. We all need to do our part for our family, for our friends, for our fellow El Pasoans.
Without responsible actions from @Mayor_Margo and @GregAbbott_TX, it will be a long time before we start to see our numbers decline.
There is no more room for equivocation on this issue.
The time for action is now.
I will always be driven by the science, the facts, and the truth. My job will be to protect the lives of my fellow El Pasoans and I will take it seriously.
