Has anybody ever asked their smart speaker to play their local NPR station by name? They keep telling me to do that and I don’t even know how to start.

Going to pound the drum all year. Dream big. What if American Bar Association endorsed an idea that all our laws should be available to all? This could happen. What if Members of Congress decided that the raw materials of our democracy should be available for all? This could be.

We’ve actually got a real strategy to try and make this happen. Standing up a site with regs for all 50 states, many jury instructions, a dozen legislative codes. This is very doable. The legal foundation is solid. The cost is minimal, the outcome would be transformational.

By mandatory deposit, I mean all proper edicts. Regulations, codified legislation, municipal ordinances, court opinions. Edicts of government go beyond just "the law." Includes legal materials issued by the gov. Act of congress, but also hearings and reports supporting the act.

When the founding fathers said “seal” they were thinking of Public Resource. In today’s age, a seal is an md5 hash on a zip file and a coherent API. Congress can use that clause to mandate that any edict must be deposited with the Office of Law if it is to take effect.

My goal is by end of 2022 people will take credibly the assertion that the Full Faith and Credit Clause of the Constitution requires all edicts of government must be encoded in proper json and xml and available for bulk download and through an API. It is January. Still early.

Now that we’ve sorted that out, the only thing we need to do is make sure my car doesn’t spontaneously combust while the no-news updates persist. But, I’ll take the wins where I can get them for now.
