I don't care about weights and measures all I want is regnal years for statutes.

What actually *good* things would you bring back from the 1960s if you were eg prime minister of an impossibly nostalgic country though

I am honoured to have been appointed Solicitor General, and to follow so many distinguished predecessors. I will discharge the important responsibilities that come with this office to the very best of my ability

Literally no one has ever raised this with me as an MP. EVER! They do however tell me that they cannot afford their heating, they say they can't get their disabled kids a school place, they tell me they called the police and no one came. But sure a quarter of sweets will solve it

The coolest part of this really interesting judgment is that the President of the Family Division is the custodian of a safe containing some 30 envelopes. Rather like Hagrid, Keeper of Keys & Grounds at Hogwarts.

“The unwillingness to engage with the Court as it is, instead of what pundits imagine it to be, quietly carries water for a conservative legal movement that depends on public acceptance of the fantasy of the objective, apolitical judiciary.” Yes yes yes:

Ok folks, this is important. China has applied to join the CPTPP, following UK footsteps. Recall the US withdrew from predecessor TPP in 2016. Snap judgement. Very bad news for hopes of speedy UK accession (not at all our fault).

I did a thread about this yesterday, but even on an incredibly generous interpretation of the provision, whoever took this photo has committed an offence under s41 Criminal Justice Act 1925! Not that I actually care, it’s just quite funny...

Maybe there's an ace legal wheeze to achieve this fast. But I doubt it. Retained EU law is itself the tailored mechanism for our law to transition smoothly to post-Brexit. What's needed is his point 2: detailed, piecemeal policy work. Not one quick ideologically satisfying fix.

"I have now been Attorney General, Solicitor General and Paymaster General in the last seven days — I do think I ought to have a uniform." joked about his interesting CV of the last week in the Commons

No need to write an exam question on the law of nuisance this year, as the famous chocolate factory down the road has helpfully come up with a problem for me…

I don't think this raises any more difficulty than the Lord Chancellor being a government minister in the first place.

Legal twitter: does anyone know if PII certs are still a thing or is the general view that they are no longer needed by Government now that Closed Material Proceedings can in principle be used in civil proceedings?

Dominic Raab, as Justice Secretary, now has responsibility for "review" of the Human Rights Act, a law which he has previously - and vociferously - argued we should scrap

Dominic Raab as Justice Secretary in very worrying. You almost got the sense Buckland was reluctantly pursuing his brief; Raab will be determined and dogmatic. One must assume the Human Rights Act will be in his sights.
