A little background to this tweet.
Skye Rose had gone up the park to play with her friends.
She'd never seen a Green Woodpecker before, but had seen my photos of them, & also knew them from a bird book I bought her for her birthday when she was 5.

That's fantastic! I'm always pleased to see one as well - they're quite common on Hampstead Heath and just as audible as visible.
-
I've heard they're common on Hampstead Heath, I think
@IsabelHardman, who wrote the foreword for my book, has photographed them there a few times. Here in Somerset, they're more often heard than seen!

I remember at that age fetching my Mum down the lane we lived on to see a row of baby long tailed tits sitting in a row on a branch luckily they hadn’t moved by the time she got there - happy days
-
I've never seen that myself, but would love to!

My daughter aged 12 did the same thing last week after reportedly seeing a tree creeper on her way home. We had just seen Winterwatch discussing them and she has fallen in

-
Oh that's brilliant to hear!
