Twitter gave a number of disability activists the tools to grow our reach and educate folks that likely would have never heard of ableism in their offline circles.
Because the rest of the world is deliberately set up to silence and exclude us.
Thatโs literally the point.

I am so sad for the way the death of Twitter is going to very much *harm* disabled people in disproportionate ways. Itโs really hard to communicate just how damaging this is for us - especially during an ongoing pandemic.
Iโm truly heartbroken right now.

The CDC has done a really spectacular job during the pandemic!
Since day 1, they've established that the public health system exists to prioritize corporations & rich people & that any failures & restrictions on freedom can be blamed on people with underlying conditions.

Please know your disabled/high risk friends are not ok.
You canโt collectively banish us from society and bombard us daily with messages that our lives donโt matter/society doesnโt need us/everyoneโs better off without us wrecking their normal, & expect that to have no effect.

One of the things I hate most about forced poverty, especially during COVID, is how the only way one can qualify for many financial assistance programs for rent, mortgage or utilities is by missing payments & ruining your credit.

I'd like to disabuse well people of the notion that chronically ill people are afraid of having COVID for a week or 4. What terrifies us is the likelihood that Long-COVID will permanently worsen our already nightmarish quality of life.

Not much is happening right now. I am in the editing stages of Fairy Best Friends but due to some health issues, it's going slowly.
So in this down-time, I thought I'd share a bit about some of the characters in Twinkle Dingle. The info is taken from myโฆ instagr.am/p/Ch-u74xvMjW/

My favorite part of the new CDC school guidelines is when they said policies should be โnon-punitiveโ for kids who wear masks even when Community Levels are not high.

Journalist friends: hereโs an important story I canโt write. About half of long Covid patients develop ME/CFS. There are only a couple dozen, max, ME/CFS clinicians in the US, and thatโs better than in other countries. And most are old. 1/

The ninth annual international Gender Census 2022 is now open until 13th August 2022!

It's for anyone whose gender (or lack thereof) isn't described by the M/F binary. It's short and easy, and results are useful in academia, business and self-advocacy.

a lot of what Americans consider to be the inevitable losses of aging are really just an engineered lack of disability accommodations.
There are a lot of opportunities for connection, adventure, and mobility we deny our elders needlessly and we're conditioned to just accept it.

To all my fellow white women saying they will boycott celebrating the 4th this year because โfreedom doesnโt apply to everyone in this country,โ you really need to take a moment to ask yourself why you were celebrating it before, because uhโฆ. thatโs not a new development.

So let me get this straight: doctors can deny abortifacient medications that keep chronically ill patients in remission because the patient COULD get pregnant.
Meanwhile, cops can freely use tear gas, an abortifacient, on protestors.
For America, that tracks.

This morning I woke up to a story: a woman who walked into a ER with an ectopic pregnancy. She lived in a state with trigger laws. She had to wait nine hours while her doctor consulted a lawyer. She almost died.
So pro-life folk, did you actually consider ramifications of this?

I'm seeing a lot of companies committing to assisting employees with abortions.
That's good and they should do that. But I have yet to see today a company commit to not donating to anti-choice politicians.
They need to do that too.

Overturning Roe and outlawing abortions will never make them go away.
It only makes them more dangerous, especially for the poor + marginalized.
People will die because of this decision. And we will never stop until abortion rights are restored in the United States of America.

It's politically inconvenient to acknowledge the massive amount of Long Covid patients in need of treatment and financial assistance in the US because once you acknowledge its magnitude, public policies, institutions and workplaces have to do something about it.

The reason no doctor will say "you are disabled now" is ableism. They think disability means giving up. But it doesn't.
It would be so helpful if a doctor would say "you are disabled now, there are benefits you are entitled to, and I will support you in applying" #NEISvoid
