The courtyard of Palazzo Mattei di Giovanni, is a treasure trove of #spolia. Anthony has pointed out that some of the intricate panels are from #sarcophagus fronts (probably not the Mithras panel)

The Mithras scene is a typical ταυροκτόνος or tauroctony, certainly cultic and far too sacred for a sarcophagus. But there are some amazing sarcophagus fronts in the architecture of palazzo Mattei di Giove. Two great hunt scenes in the staircase, among others!
